AI and automation are often discussed as if the goal were to remove humans from as much work as possible. That is usually the wrong target.
What machines are good at
- Moving structured information between systems.
- Checking large amounts of data for predefined conditions.
- Creating reminders, summaries and standard reports.
- Performing predictable repetitive actions consistently.
Where human judgment still matters
- Deciding which problem is actually worth solving.
- Understanding context that does not fit cleanly into a rule.
- Making high-risk commercial, people or strategic decisions.
- Judging quality, trust and whether an output makes sense.
Technology should create capacity
A useful automation does not simply reduce headcount or increase activity. It gives people more capacity to spend on decisions, customers and problems where their attention actually creates value.
